Donald Trump has hit out at Ukraine, saying it should get a new president who will end the war with Russia after Vladimir Zalinski criticized the US decision to lift sanctions and buy Russian diesel. Mr. Trump appeared to blame
President Zalinski for the diesel crisis, adding he'd better damn well stop attacking Russian oil refineries. Downing Street says Andy Bham has spoken to Mr. Zalinski this evening to reiterate the UK's support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Joe Inwood reports. It is a slow and painful process. [screaming] Buried under the rubble of their apartment is Jana, Anton, and the body of their daughter, Liisa. At least 12 people are now thought to have been killed in
a single Russian strike in Zaparisia. At least three were children. May all Russians die, Anatoli says as he digests the news of the death of his granddaughter. Much of Russia's war on places like Zaparisia has been funded by
the sale of oil and gas. And tonight, diesel is at the center of a major diplomatic row. That's a war that should have never started. And I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president. It started
with the announcement that President Trump had done a deal with Vladimir Putin that would see about a 100,000 barrels a day enter the global market. That was met with disbelief in Ukraine and anger from President Zilinski. All that
money goes towards the war against people, against Ukraine, against all of us. In my view, this is a weak decision. Unfortunately, a weak decision by strong partners. The United States is currently seeing record diesel prices and growing voter
anger ahead of crucial midterm elections. Many blame President Trump and his war with Iran for the rising costs they're seeing at the pumps. But tonight, he said that the real cause of the problem with ease. Ukrainian strikes on
Russian oil facilities. For Ukraine, they've been a key part of their military strategy. For President Trump, a cause of his problems. He wants to make problems for our farmers, our ranchers with diesel fuel because Russia supplies a large
portion of the diesel fuel throughout the world. You're in no position to dictate. For more than a year, President Zilinski has been carefully and it seemed successfully rebuilding his relationship with Donald Trump, left at rock bottom by this
notorious bustup. Tonight, it seems much of that has been undone. While undoubtedly falling Russian exports have played a role, the real cause of the rising cost of diesel lies here in the Strait of Hormuz and in the war
with Iran. The consequences of the failure to end that war continue to ripple around the world. Joe Inwood, BBC News. Well, let's go straight to Dan Johnson who's in Kiev for us. And Dan, we're used to Mr. Trump
flip-flopping in his announcements, but there must be alarm in Kiev at all this. Yeah, there's alarm, there's fury, there's dismay at the way that Donald Trump tends to favor Vladimir Putin, who started this war over President Zilinski, who
they feel is just trying to defend his nation, and the sense that this is all about fuel prices, the war in Iran, and Donald Trump being able to present something positive to the American people ahead of the midterm
elections. And there are angry voices in America echoing that, too. There have been questions about Zilinsk's decisions at times, but nothing unites Ukrainians like this sort of slapdown from the US. And he will cling to the allies he
believes he can truly rely on. Now, he said he'd had a very good and timely phone call with Andy Bernham this evening. And Downing Street said British solidarity was reiterated and there was a new commitment to tougher Russian
sanctions. This weekend was supposed to be about peace talks, perhaps discussing an end to this war. that's been derailed. And now the harsh reality is that Ukraine will fight on, that it will probably continue targeting those oil refineries,
but it needs US support, intelligence, and weapons. The hypersonic missiles that were heading towards Kev this afternoon were only shot down by US-made Patriot interceptors, and Ukraine needs more of those. So, the relationship with the White House really
matters, and it will have to be rebuilt.
